The main aim of statistics is to monitor and evaluate the common agricultural policy and other important EU policies, and to support policy making. Information on the prices of agricultural resources plays an important role in decision-making for both farmers and the Ministry of Agriculture Republic of Latvia. Input prices and indices from each country of the European Union contribute to the common EU agricultural statistics and development of the common European agricultural policy. In Latvia, the EAA is used to compile the agricultural part of the National Accounts, as well as to develop state policy in the field of agriculture and for scientific purposes. The Strategy for agricultural statistics for 2020 and beyond is a major programme to modernise European Union agricultural statistics undertaken by the European Commission in close cooperation with Member States. The draft regulation on Statistics on Agricultural Input and Output (SAIO) also stresses the possibility of using a range of data sources for providing the necessary statistics. The on-going modernisation of Economic Accounts for Agriculture also requires changes to the agricultural statistics systems. Objective of this project is to adapt the existing system of Input prices and indices, and Economic Accounts for Agriculture to new needs and make better use of available sources. The project includes two activities: • Modernisation of production of input price and indices statistics - develop methods and modernize data collection, processing and analysis. • Quality assessment of the sources and methods of calculation of the Economic Accounts for Agriculture, modernization and improvement of the data quality, assessment of impact of the project.
